Discovering an error in your published paper's author information—such as a misspelled name, incorrect affiliation, or wrong author order—can be a stressful experience, especially after it has been indexed in a major database like EI Compendex.
It is a common misconception that you should contact EI Compendex (Elsevier) to fix this. However, EI is an indexer, not the publisher. The correction must be made at the source.
Here is the professional procedure to get your author information corrected.

First, you must determine where the error originated.
Case 1 (Most Common): The Error is in the Official Publication. Go to the official publisher's website for the conference proceedings. For most engineering papers, this is the IEEE Xplore digital library. Does the error exist on the official IEEE Xplore article page? If yes, this is a Publisher-level Error.
Case 2 (Very Rare): The Error is Only in EI Compendex. Check the official publisher's website (e.g., IEEE Xplore). Is the information correct there, but incorrect in the EI Compendex database? If so, this is an Indexing-level Error.
You must follow a different procedure for each case.
This is the standard procedure for 99% of all correction requests.
Do NOT Contact EI Compendex or Scopus. They will reject your request and tell you to contact the publisher.
Contact the Publisher Directly. You must contact the editor of the conference proceedings or the publisher's support desk.
For IEEE Conferences: This is the most common publisher for EI papers. You should contact the IEEE Author Support or IEEE Xplore Support.
For Springer, ACM, etc.: Find the "Contact" or "Author Support" link on their main publication page.
Provide Clear, Detailed Evidence. Send an email with the following information:
Paper Title:
DOI (Digital Object Identifier):
Conference Name: (e.g., "2026 11th International Conference on Signal and Image Processing (ICSIP 2026)")
The Error: "The author 'John Smoth' is listed incorrectly."
The Correction: "The correct name is 'John Smith'."
Proof: If the error was a typesetter's mistake (not your own), you can attach the final, correct version of the paper you submitted.
Wait for the Publisher's Action. The publisher will review your request. For minor typos, they may correct the metadata directly. For more significant changes (like adding a missing author or changing author order, which is very difficult), they may need to publish a formal "Erratum" or "Corrigendum."
The Publisher Sends Updates. Once the publisher has corrected the metadata in their system (e.g., on IEEE Xplore), they will automatically send the updated data feed to all indexing partners, including EI Compendex and Scopus.
Wait for EI to Update. This is not instant. It can take several weeks or even months for EI Compendex to process the updated feed from the publisher.
Follow this only if you have confirmed the publisher's record (e.g., IEEE Xplore) is 100% correct, but the EI Compendex entry is wrong.
Contact Elsevier Support. Go to the Elsevier support website and find the contact form for "database corrections" or "Compendex support."
Provide Evidence of the Discrepancy. This is the most important part.
State Clearly: "Your EI Compendex record for this paper is incorrect and does not match the official publisher's record."
EI Compendex Record: Provide a screenshot or the EI Accession Number of the incorrect entry.
Publisher's Record: Provide the DOI and a direct URL to the correct page on IEEE Xplore (or Springer, etc.).
Request Re-indexing. Ask them to "please correct your Compendex record to match the official publisher metadata."
This will prompt the EI team to manually review the discrepancy and correct their entry.
