DESCRIPTION
The 5th International Conference on Geography and Education (5th ICGE) will be hosted by the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia. ICGE is recognised as a reputable academic forum in Indonesia that brings together scholars, researchers, and educators to advance knowledge and practice in geography and geography education.
In recent years, climate change has become an increasingly urgent global issue. Rising temperatures and sea levels have intensified the frequency and severity of hydrometeorological hazards such as floods, landslides, and droughts. These challenges highlight the need to strengthen collective responsibility and evidence-based action to safeguard environmental sustainability and community resilience.
In response, the Department of Geography, Universitas Negeri Malang, is committed to contributing to meaningful solutions through research, education, and policy-relevant engagement. One strategic effort is to convene an international scientific forum ICGE to facilitate scholarly exchange and collaboration, particularly in developing alternative strategies and innovative approaches to reduce climate change impacts.
Building on the momentum of the previous conference theme, “Climate Changes and the Future of Our Planet: Challenges and Opportunities of Geography and Education,” the 5th ICGE continues to emphasise the importance of strengthening the relationship between humans and the environment. Through this conference, the organising committee expects to encourage rigorous discussion, promote actionable insights, and foster cross-sector collaboration to support transformative climate action and a more sustainable future.
