DESCRIPTION
Call for papers/Topics Topics of interest for submission include any topics related to: 1. Green Chemical Engineering This pillar focuses on the "12 Principles of Green Chemistry" applied to industrial scales. Sustainable Reaction Engineering Catalysis: Homogeneous, heterogeneous, and biocatalysis (enzymes). Alternative Activation Methods: Microwave, ultrasound, and photo-chemistry. Process Intensification: Combining multiple unit operations into one (e.g., reactive distillation). Green Solvents and Separation Supercritical Fluids (e.g., $scCO_2$). Ionic Liquids and Deep Eutectic Solvents. Aqueous Phase Chemistry. Membrane-based separations vs. energy-intensive distillation. Waste Valorization Converting "waste" into feedstock (Circular Economy). Atom Economy: Maximizing the incorporation of starting materials into the final product. 2. Energy Sustainability This focuses on the transition from fossil-based energy to renewable and efficient systems. Renewable Energy Conversion Solar Energy: Photovoltaics and concentrated solar power. Bioenergy: First to fourth-generation biofuels (algal and metabolic engineering). Wind and Geothermal Engineering. Energy Storage and Carriers The Hydrogen Economy: Green hydrogen production via water electrolysis. Advanced Battery Chemistry: Lithium-ion, Solid-state, and Flow batteries. Fuel Cells: Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) and Solid Oxide (SOFC) cells. Energy Efficiency Heat Integration and Pinch Analysis. Waste Heat Recovery systems. Smart Grids and Decentralized Energy Systems. 3. Environmental Sustainability This covers the monitoring, protection, and restoration of the natural environment. Carbon Management Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU): Turning $CO_2$ into fuels or polymers. Negative Emission Technologies (Direct Air Capture). Water-Energy Nexus Desalination technologies. Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) for wastewater treatment. Recovery of nutrients (Nitrogen/Phosphorus) from waste streams. Pollution Prevention & Remediation Air quality monitoring and scrubbing technology. Bioremediation: Using microbes to clean soil and water. Plastic Lifecycle: Biodegradable polymers and chemical recycling. 4. Cross-Cutting Systems & Assessment These topics tie the three pillars together through data and logic. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Cradle-to-Grave vs. Cradle-to-Cradle analysis. Quantifying "Environmental Footprints" (Carbon, Water, and Land). Industrial Ecology Eco-industrial parks (where one factory's waste is another's fuel). Sustainability metrics and Green Chemistry "Dashboards." Policy and Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) Feasibility studies of new green technologies. Regulatory frameworks (Carbon taxes, REACH compliance).
