-About Ankara, Turkey-
Ankara is the capital and second-largest city of Türkiye, located on the Central Anatolia Plateau. Long before becoming a modern capital, the ancient city known as Ancyra stood at a vital crossroads of trade routes, witnessing the rise and fall of Hittites, Phrygians, Romans and Byzantines.
In 1923, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk officially chose Ankara as the capital of the newly founded Turkish Republic, replacing Istanbul. It quickly developed into the nation’s political, administrative and educational centre, home to numerous government institutions, foreign embassies and top universities.
Boasting a unique mix of ancient relics and modern urban landscapes, Ankara features highlights including Ankara Castle, the Temple of Augustus and Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Atatürk. Famous for Angora goats, it also enjoys a continental climate with cold, snowy winters and hot, dry summers. Blending profound history with republican heritage, Ankara presents a distinctive face of inland Türkiye.
